Taxidermist Charles Hanson, who grew up on Artichoke Lake in western Minnesota, acquired his 500-bird collection from hunting around Artichoke and in Arkansas, California and Alaska. After his uncles’ country store closed in the 1970s, he converted it to a museum that was moved to the Big Stone County Historical Society museum in Ortonville.
