hi I'm Raven Santana at Sakulkus Junction Bus Plaza where additional buses were added to help with passenger flow but despite NJ Transit reaching a deal passengers I spoke with here say they are still preparing for a challenging commute now you know how I passengers were up bright and early at Saucus Junction hoping to avoid a repeat of Friday's transit confusion will Marorrow a commuter from Nutley said he wanted to make sure he started the day on the right foot especially since it's only his second week at a new job in the city yeah I don't start work till 9:00 so yeah I came early then Hurst to Saucus Saucus to New York okay were you nervous hearing about all the reports on Friday of the strike and just because like I said this is my only my second week um working in New York so throughout the morning I watched as commuters rushed towards any available bus as soon as it pulled up and a transit workers here had a strong and visible presence at the terminal helping guide passengers to the correct buses keeping traffic moving and for the most part doing it all with a smile one commuter described it as a drastic improvement from Friday's commute friday was bad how about today um it looks good nj Transit rolled out supplemental buses for about 20% of the 100,000 daily rail riders including the 70,000 commuting into Manhattan at a cost of $4 million a day but those buses didn't start running until today at four designated park and ride locations including here in Sakus it looks great now we're also pretty early it really stunk having to pay out of pocket to go and been waking up at 4:30 to try to get there by 6:30 so now I'm super late um but hopefully better days are to come it's been really really bad um I've actually had a friend been driving me in um a car just to avoid the buses we spent about an hour hour and a half when it usually takes about 20 minutes so it was interesting people were getting pretty mad um but you just you do what you got to do commuter Samantha Sturba says she's remaining cautiously optimistic here i was early i was here by like 6:00 it actually wasn't terrible but then I had friends like sending me pictures and stuff wasn't great sturba says while she's relieved that the strike is over she wants to remind NJ Transit that it's the commuters who were most affected and she feels that fact is often overlooked at the end of the day we're the people that pay the price not necessarily the engineers not the people that are sitting on the boards making decisions it's us the commuters that are making less money that now have to pay the price of these strikes so I hope we're uh we're in a good place moving forward although the strike is over riders will need to hang in there a bit longer as full service is expected to return by Tuesday morning for NJ Spotlight News I'm Raven Santana
