The story behind an iconic photo of two baseball players hugging after the 1948 World Series.

It was the photo of a hug between two Cleveland Indian teammates after winning the 1948 World Series, that you might say went viral in its day. The hug was between Polish-American pitcher Steve Gromek, a Hamtramck native, and outfielder Larry Doby, the second Black player to break baseball’s color barrier. One Detroit’s Bill Kubota examines the controversy over the photo.
